"Dear Iain Reid" Published on Medium

After sitting with it for some time, I have made the decision to publish a very personal and vulnerable piece of writing on Medium.

"Dear Iain Reid: An Open Letter on Having Fear and Hope" was first written during a very difficult day last month. Rather than keep these thoughts and experiences hidden away, I wanted to share what I was experiencing and how I found myself relating to one of my favourite books, I'm Thinking of Ending Things.

This is probably an unusual open letter to some, but I liked the idea of exploring how we see ourselves in book characters, especially ones like Jake. I'm not actually hoping Iain will respond (as awesome as that would be!). More than anything, I wanted to release my struggles into the world as a form of catharsis. Maybe the letter will even reach and help others who can relate to Jake's character too.
